Pickleball

So today’s question - well there are are a few, but we’ll start with this: Should I run for the board again? The answer has been a hardy “NO” until the past few days.

Why the change?

I have been getting pressure from some people I respect to run again and keep doing what I have been doing. Which is a lot.

So the question today, if you haven’t played pickleball in 16 months due to an injury, and you really aren’t sure if you miss it or not, are you still a pickleball player?

I had played a lot since starting a five-ish years ago but when we were in Palm Springs, I tore my meniscus in two places. I had to use a cane for the rest of our trip and then when we got home I was fitted for a knee brace, which I have been wearing for nine months. Surgery has been put off but I think it’s time.

My knee does hurt most of the time and moving side to side is not my happy place. Oddly enough, that’s one of the main moves in pickleball. On top of that, playing with the paddle in my right hand is difficult, which is a problem being right handed and all. Fortunately my favourite shot is a two-handed backhand, so maybe I could only hit those. The other team may catch on after the first few points.

So, am I a pickleball player?

I should play because:
- I used to really enjoy it
- it was my main source of exercise and I haven’t replace it with anything
- it was pretty much my only source of socializing

The reasons I am not playing are:
- my knee
- my inability to hit forehands
- I’m maybe a little scared to play again
- I like staying home
- the courts are so far away
- I’m not sure I miss it
- it’s possible being on the board has sucked the fun out of playing
-
I get more out of the administration side than the playing side

UPDATE: It has been a month since I wrote this and never did post it. The answer to question one is a resounding NOT A CHANCE. As for the second question: I guess so? I started playing two weeks ago. I’m not at the point where I’m enjoying it yet. That may have a bit to do with the pain in my knee, not being very good yet, and having to learn to play left-handed. So let’s put a TBA by that one.
